Former Manchester Futsal Club player gives his first interview to Spanish media.
After just a month and a half in Spain Doug Reed gives his first interview with the Spanish Futsal media Golsala.com. He continues to enjoy the pinnacle moment in his career so far and this week will be back in England for the first time since leaving to join up with the national team in a double header fixture versus Israel.

You're the first English player to play in the LNFS and the first full international player from the club. Are you nervous, do you feel pressure?

Not at all, but I'm pretty excited. When I was in England I was working hard to play in the Spanish league and I achieved that. Now I'm here and very happy for what the future holds for me. I hope to stay a long in the Spanish league, because it is a unique opportunity for me in a top-level championship.

Is it very different futsal Spanish and English?

Yes, of course. The main difference is that in Spain it is more tactical and faster. Here it pays to a more intelligent futsal player and you must match that with the right decision in very short time, you have to be very fast.

Is there any similarity in the training methods?

In England I trained with Manchester Futsal Club’s Brazilian Head Coach Rodrigo Freitas. The club instilled the Spanish futsal methods. Also the former Croatian Head Coach Mico Martic who has worked with the England team uses the Spanish philosophy of futsal in our training exercises.

How have you adapted to the country?

I love Spain and its culture. I want to learn the language quickly because I have come to the island to grow in every sense, personally and professionally. I like the island, weather, food, people. It's great.

What about you next challenge facing Israel?

To tell you the truth I do not know much about them. England and Israel have a similar level between them so there is a very good opportunity for England to claim a victory.

What is missing in England to allow futsal to explode in this football loving country?

The problem is we have no indoor sports culture which is a pity because we have a very unstable climate and indoor sport could really take off. I believe futsal could be promoted more within football.

Did you know the Lanzarote Tias Yaiza before arriving?

To tell you the truth I did not know the team. I did know the island though so that influenced me to come. When I was little I spent two summers in Lanzarote and I loved coming here. I knew of the Fire Mountains, Casa de Cesar Manrique, La Cueva de Los Verdes, Los Jameos .... so it was very easy to decide to choose the island and adapt quickly.

What do you expect this season?

Last season the team achieved great success and got into the playoffs for promotion. Collectively I'd really like to be part of a season like this while I continue to learn and become a regular player within the team.
