Manchester Futsal Club supports the UK team competing at The Street Child World Cup 2010.

Manchester Futsal Club has recently completed an inspiring project with M13 Youth Project who have been chosen to send a UK representative team to South Africa for the 2010 Street Child World Cup. Working with male and female players aged 14-19 years from the Ardwick area of Manchester (one of the most economically deprived wards in the country) the club gave a futsal training session to help prepare the team for when they step onto the world stage on 13 March 2010.
The competition itself will bring positive attention to the street children and reiterate the necessity for their human rights to be recognized around the world. The team from Ardwick will join street children from around the world in Durban, South Africa to compete in the first ever Deloitte Street Child World Cup.

Children from nine countries including Brazil, India, Nicaragua, Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, Ukraine, and Vietnam will come together and find their voices through the global language of the game they love. Teams will work with international coaches to express themselves on the football pitch and with specially trained artists who will enable them to tell their stories.
Manchester Futsal Club were delighted to be asked to help prepare the team and were confident about the team chances of doing well in the competition. During the session which was lead by Manchester Futsal Club coaches the players got an opportunity to learn about the various components of futsal and also focus on futsal’s strong emphasis on teamwork, an attribute which they will need throughout the competition if they hope to challenge some of the best street footballers in the world.

Manchester Futsal Club General Manager spoke of the club’s work with the Manchester youngsters; “This has been a great opportunity for us to be part of a high profile event which is really putting the voice of these kids at the heart of the project. We have learnt so much about the challenges that they are faced with in their daily lives and it is really fulfilling to know that they will use this futsal training to hopefully bring them success in South Africa. They are a talented team and have a great chance to succeed in what is a once in a lifetime opportunity”
